SPDC at Drexel University

April 25 - 27

student professional development conference

What is SPDC?

A brief overview of what we are planning at Drexel University.

ASME's Student Professional Development Conference provides students an opportunity to showcase their research and compete against fellow students in the surrounding district. Drexel ASME is also organizing an engineering fair along side the competitions on Saturday, in which multiple industry professionals will discuss how they excelled after graduation and what young professionals can do to succeed in the evolving world of engineering. The career fair will be on Saturday and will have up to twenty-five (25) companies in attendance with about four (4) industry speakers.

This three day conference brings together all students of District A to share knowledge, learn what fellow students/universities are researching, have the opportunity to talk with engineering industry companies and professionals, and explore the historic city of Philadelphia.

Planned Agenda & Speakers List

Competitions at SPDC

Present your effort in engineering for an attempt to compete internationally.

Student Design Competition

The use of Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) has proved to be very efficient. They not only save the pilot from being placed in harm's way but the expense is much lower. There are uses of UAV's that have been identified. Design a small UAV to carry a cargo through two gates, drop a payload, and return to the starting point.

Drexel University

A little bit about Drexel University.

Drexel University, founded in 1891, is located in Philadelphia, PA. It offers over 70 full time undergraduate programs and over 100 graduate programs. It has over 25,000 students enrolled in 15 schools and colleges. It is well known for it's co-op program where students spend six months a year on an internship in their field of study. Most students follow a five year plan of study including a co-op in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year. Drexel's Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics Department is among the largest in the University with over 800 students and 30 faculty members. For more information visit the Drexel University and MEM Department websites.

We also have a map of our campus, highlighting the important buildings for the event. You may also be interested in a student made app that includes searching by rooms and building floor plans. Get it on Android.

Results

We hope everyone enjoyed themselves at SPDC. Here are the results!

Drexel's SPDC provided the opportunity for thirteen oral presentation competitors, twelve poster competitors, three web page competitors, and eighteen student design competition teams to prove their skills to be the best. After ten hours of straight competing, the scores were tallied and the results are in. Below you shall find the winners of each competition.

While the members below may have placed high, all competitors deserve recognition for their hard work. Thank you to everyone who attended and we wish good luck to those moving on to IMECE in November! You may view photos from the conference on our Facebook Album.
